ABOUT A CURIAE
A Curiae is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that uses a public health framework to strengthen recovery capital — the practical resources, meaningful relationships, and community connections people need — so that individuals returning from incarceration can build stable, self-determined lives.
MISSION & HISTORY.
A Curiae is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working at the intersection of public health and criminal justice. Our mission is to strengthen recovery capital — the practical resources, meaningful relationships, and community connections that make long-term stability possible — so that people returning from incarceration can build stable, self-determined lives.
We were founded on the belief that lasting change in the justice system requires more than supervision. It requires a genuine investment in people. In 2023, we began providing direct services to individuals on supervised release in the Northern District of California, partnering with the federal court to fill the gaps that supervision alone cannot address. Since then, we have grown steadily — expanding to new federal district partners, deepening our network of community resources, and building mentorship relationships across the country — all while remaining grounded in the same core conviction: that a public health approach to reentry produces better outcomes for individuals, families, and communities alike.
CORE
PILLARS.
A Curiae's work is organized around three interconnected pillars, each addressing a critical dimension of recovery and reintegration.
-
Community Resource Navigation
-
Professional Mentorship
-
Social Connection
OUR IMPACT.
Numbers can only tell part of the story, but they matter. Each year, we publish an annual report detailing the reach of our work — the partnerships we've built, the resources we've connected people to, and the outcomes we're tracking as we grow.
OUR PARTNERS.
A Curiae works with a broad network of community organizations and service providers connected by a shared commitment to supporting people returning to their communities. Our referral relationships span food access, workforce development, housing, and community programming — and grow as our participants' needs do.
