Getting People From Where They Are Today To A Better Tomorrow

By: Sachin Sharma, interviewing Bobby Love

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Bobby Love, Vice President of the Board of Directors at A Curiae. I wanted to learn more about his 23 years of experience in the U.S. Federal Court System, why he joined A Curiae, and how he aligns with A Curiae’s mission. To say his responses blew me away would be an understatement. Let’s get into it.

Sachin: Tell us about yourself, your background, your experience, and how you got to where you are.

Bobby: I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I loved sports growing up and was involved in wrestling, football, sambo, and judo. Fun fact: as an athlete at San Jose State University, I ranked as high as 7th in the U.Ss and was also a part of the U.S.A. Sambo team. As a student, I earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Religion.

I always wanted to work with people so I started my career as a group counselor in Alameda County, helping with care, custody, and control for minors. I eventually became a Federal Probation Officer, where I spent 15 years conducting thorough pre-sentence investigations, developing supervision plans, and facilitating rehabilitation and reintegration. Most recently, I was a Firearms and Safety Team Instructor, where I built a workforce development program and organized several conferences.

Sachin: Wow - that’s such an interesting and unique background! What brought you to join A Curiae’s board of directors?

Bobby: I retired from my U.S. Federal scope in October 2023. I had known Wyatt, A Curiae’s president and founder,  from my time working in the U.S. Courts. We reconnected and I loved his mission and vision for where he wanted to take A Curiae. I have a heart for rehabilitation and have seen that there are not enough resources for people who need second chances. Wyatt asked me if I’d like to join A Curiae’s board to develop resources based on my experience and I was honored to. I have many great relationships inside the U.S. Courts so am eager to bring my experience in to help A Curiae.

Sachin: How do you plan to align with A Curiae’s mission?

Bobby: My life mission is to get people from where they are today to a better tomorrow. A Curiae’s mission is to provide support for the court and clients on supervision through community partnership, professional skill-building, and problem-solving. Both these align perfectly. I want to leverage my network to open doors for A Curiae that other non-profits haven’t had an opportunity to. Ultimately, as a board member at A Curaie, I want to make relevant program information and resources available to everyone. I’m excited to be a part of driving A Curiae’s mission!
