A Curiae is looking to build pro-social engagements with community partners that give our participants and staff opportunities to connect. Spending a warm, sunny afternoon volunteering with the San Francisco Conviction Alternatives Program (CAP) team at Presidio Tunnel Tops was a great opportunity to do just that. With vibrant blooms, fresh air, and stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge, we spent the day caring for the landscape. We deadheaded proteas, pruned kangaroo paws, and learned about the unique work of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.
Being outside with our team, surrounded by the bright red and orange colors of the garden, felt grounding and therapeutic. Everyone jumped right in with our gloves and bright yellow vests. Staff at Presidio Tunnel Tops even shared that they were surprised that our group covered so much ground and was a joy to host. The Presidio staff were incredibly engaging, knowledgeable, and went out of their way to make our group feel welcome.

A highlight for me was being paired with a CAP participant and learning more about his talents and a few hidden ones. As I moved around capturing photos, quick smiles for the camera turned into genuine conversations and laughter.

It was a refreshing feeling to see the CAP team come together in a different way—working side by side, sharing stories, and building trust. Moments like this are a powerful reminder of how simple acts of service can strengthen community and support healing. A Curiae is looking to build stronger communities through connection, and our volunteer days offer a perfect opportunity for participants and staff to step away from the courthouse and enjoy meaningful time together.
